Are you as keen to be over and done with these lockdowns as I am? As much as I enjoy being at home (and my weeks don’t even look too different to before since I’m working from home anyway), I’ve got some serious cravings for real bush, beach and nature in general! I, like many others, have the doubtful pleasure of living within the Auckland borders, which means we’re currently grounded until further notice.

With the country borders still closed (as well as Auckland at the moment), you can explore your own backyard with as few people as probably decades ago! The places that are usually swamped with people, like the Tongariro Crossing, Milford Sound, Waitomo Caves or Rotorua’s geothermal parks, are now quiet and peaceful. This is your once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!
It’s getting warmer and the days are longer again
I’ve always been a huge advocate for off-season travel! Spring and autumn are, in my opinion, the best times to see New Zealand without needing to pre-book months ahead. In spring and autumn, the days are long and reasonably warm, perfect for a little road trip. And also the hot and dry summer has its perks, it might just need a little more prep time to find availability.

Pretty much all tourism and hospitality businesses were completely unable to work during the lockdown and are in huge financial troubles (if they’re still around, that is). You can help them! Buy a voucher now that can be used after lockdown, start making plans and bookings for your next getaway. Anything you book or buy now will help these businesses get through the hardest time, even when you only travel much later.
